ASHRAE Sustainability Efforts

Introduction

Greening ASHRAE Meetings and Expositions is the new GAME for ASHRAE. This Society-wide effort is intended to reduce the total environmental impact of doing ASHRAE business, particularly of conducting ASHRAE meetings and expositions.

Listed below are the steps that the Madison Chapter of ASHRAE are taking to reduce the environmental impact of this convention.

Facility – Monona Terrace Convention Center

	Currently submitting for LEED 2.2 under Existing Buildings.
	10% of energy consumption is purchased as renewable through utility.
	Use 49% less energy than the average of nine local convention centers.
	Are in the upper 3% of national convention centers for energy use.
	Meet ASHRAE standard 90.1 for energy use and standard 55 for thermal comfort.
	Recycle 44% of all waste – all possible recyclable paper, glass, and plastic are recycled.
	Earth friendly cleaning products are used.
	Cloth and china place settings are used for all indoor events.
	All leftover food from catering is donated to local food pantries.
	Organic and locally grown foods are purchased whenever possible.
	Have teamed with The Leonardo Academy to calculate emissions.
	Site selected for its green initiatives and central location within Madison .

Publicity

	Limited amount of printed flyers and then used recycled paper.
	Majority of publicity is done through Madison ASHRAE website and emailings.

Photography

	Digital photos of the event will be taken and sent out electronically or by disk.
	Printing of photos will be limited to user who can print out their own copy.
