CRC Companion Activities

 

 

Thursday afternoon:

Recommended options include a tour to the Olbrich Gardens on the east side of Madison , near Lake Monona . Stroll through 16 acres of outdoor display gardens including Olbrich's award-winning Rose Garden and Thai Pavilion and Garden. Outdoor gardens are open daily and free to the public. Enjoy a tropical paradise year-round in Olbrich's Bolz Conservatory, a glass pyramid filled with exotic plants, bright flowers, a rushing waterfall, fragrant orchids and free-flying birds.  There is a minor charge for the Bolz Conservatory. Friday morning:

Recommended tours of the Wisconsin State Capitol, just a few blocks from the convention site. Tours are available at 9:00 am and 10:00 am. The Wisconsin State Capitol is one of the most impressive capitol buildings in the nation, only one foot shorter than the nation’s capitol in Washington and the only State capitol building ever built on an isthmus. Friday afternoon:

Recommended tours of the Overture Center on State St one block off of the Capitol Square .  The schedule is available on www.overturecenter.com  The facility contains the fabulous Overture Hall, the intimate Playhouse, three black box multipurpose spaces, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, meeting rooms, four art galleries, a soaring glass lobby, and the Capitol Theater, returned to its original name. After a tour of Overture, take a tour down State Street for a taste of Madison and finish at the UW Memorial Union Terrace for a Babcock ice cream on the edge of Lake Mendota . Saturday morning: 

The Dane County farmer’s market on the Capitol Square is a tradition in Madison . The market is the heart of the activities on the Square. The vendors sell agriculturally-related producer-only products from Wisconsin . The Market has strict rules for the market vendors and has a three-year waiting list for new vendors.  More information is available on www.madfarmmkt.org
